20 Character tips, Issue 102, 2007

Product of the environment
“My ‘Rubbish Art’ project involves walking around the streets, bringing rubbish to life and making it talk back. I think it’ s a good idea that your characters respond to the situation they are in. I found a chair that had no legs so the character wonders where its legs are and so do I.”

The subtlety of expression
“It helps to give your characters as much expression as possible, and the smallest of alterations can make a big difference. It’s good to create movement and, in the drawing above, you can imagine the little blue man getting slapped for making annoying noises.”
