Do you feel like your art is generally political (here I am not talking about your riot piece specifically)? And does humour play a part in achieving that?
Humour is a large part of my part of my work. I enjoy creating the opposite to what is expected as I find this highlights the ridiculousness in most things.
Does your art take its shape in order to reflect an overall section of society or is it based on a purely personal perspective?
It’s my point of view. I don’t think I can take responsibility for anyone else as they are too confusing. I do sometimes use other peoples point of view but this would again be to highlight my view on how stupid they are.
How did the riots affect you? And what was your instant response?
I live in London and followed it on the news and the internet. There are better ways to make a point than setting fire to buildings and putting peoples live in danger. I don’t think many of them knew what they were ‘fighting for’ and just wanted some free stuff.
‘Start Art, Not Riots’. If this reached those rioting in august, do you reckon it would have had an effect?
They probably would have stolen it or burnt it. Maybe I could do an art class for those who got arrested and show them there is another way to make your opinions heard.
Can Art be a replacement for rioting (or general anti-social behaviour)?
It could be a good start. Maybe rioting in a gallery could be good art installation. It seems like the only natural conclusion. That or a nice watercolour.
As an artist do you feel like art and education has shaped your morals and relationship to the world around you?
I think just living everyday life has helped to shape my morals and I’ve learned from the good and bad things the other humans do. I’ve always felt separate from large parts of society and just look at it with a confused glance.
